Alcohol Behind the Wheel – An Awareness Event

On January 23, 2020, the NC State University Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit will be conducting an Alcohol Awareness Event on the University Plaza (Brickyard) from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Event Description: The event is open to the public with special focus on young adults. It will include, but is not limited to:

  • Static display of vehicles (including the NC Department of Health and Human Services ‘BAT’ Mobile breath testing bus)
  •  Interactive games highlighting traffic safety and effects of alcohol on coordination and motor skills
  • Vehicle driving course utilizing golf carts to demonstrate safe operation and effects of alcohol on drivers
  • Demonstrations

Target audience:

  • Young adults (ages 18-25)
  • Underage people (under legal drinking age)

Purpose: To engage the campus community through the use of static displays, discussions and practical demonstrations on topics of alcohol safety.

Objectives: To increase awareness of the effects of alcohol on driving; Increase awareness of impaired driving laws and Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) limits; Discuss way to prevent impaired driving; Reduce binge drinking among young adults

Waiver of Liability: Individuals who are interested in participating in driving course will be required to sign a waiver of liability before engaging in the activities.
