Attempted Robbery

On 1/25/2021, University Police was notified of an attempted robbery that had occurred at approximately 5:30 PM in the parking deck of University Towers located at 111 Friendly Dr., Raleigh, NC. A female student reported to the Raleigh Police Department that a tall, skinny black male approached her and demanded money. When she turned to walk away, the suspect grabbed her by her shirt. The suspect then fled the area towards Hillsborough St. in a white maintenance style van with a ladder on the roof rack. The suspect is described as being around 30 years of age, short hair, wearing a gray hoodie and dark blue jeans. No weapon was used or implied in this incident.

The campus community is always encouraged to take the following steps to keep themselves safe:

– Assailants are more likely to target individuals walking alone, on darkened or unlit paths, or who are distracted by headphones or activities such as texting.

– Walk in groups whenever possible, especially at night.

– If you feel unsafe in any situation, trust your instinct and contact University Police immediately to report suspicious activities or crimes on campus by calling 911 or 919-515-3000
