Alcohol & Drug Awareness

The NC State University Police Department realizes that alcohol and drug abuse are significant issue on virtually all college campuses. The Crime Prevention Unit offers several programs related to alcohol and drug use in the hope that education will help students in our community make responsible choices that will safeguard their future.

Programs that the Crime Prevention Unit offer are:

  • Alcohol Awareness – This program focuses on informing the students about NC Alcohol/Drug Laws, University Alcohol Policies, safe drinking practices for those over the age of 21, and the effects of alcohol on the body. This program may utilize tools such as the popular “beer goggles,” among other activities to enhance the message presented.
  • DWI Law Awareness – This program focuses primarily on NC DWI Laws, University DWI Policies, DWI Enforcement, the effects of Alcohol on the driver, and the results of driving while impaired. This program may also utilize tools such as the popular “beer goggles,” among other activities to enhance the message presented.
  • Drug Identification – The Crime Prevention Unit works with University Housing Staff in order to educate them on the identification of drugs, recognizing signs of drug use, and proper reporting procedures. Officers present the material using visual aids, such as seized drug paraphernalia, so that Housing Staff can more easily identify contraband in real world scenarios.
  • Drug Law Awareness – This program focuses on the NC Laws associated with Drug Possession, University Drug Policies, the effects of certain drugs on the body, and consequences of drug use in the Campus Environment.
