NC State Lockout Procedures (Non-Residence Buildings)

Forgot Your Key or Wolfpack One Card?

  • NC State Police, Facilities and Security Applications and Technologies staff are not authorized to unlock buildings or offices for you if you forget your key or card.
  • You must return home to retrieve it. 

Lost or Stolen Key/Card?

  • Keys: Report to your department’s key liaison for re-keying and/or replacement.
  • Wolfpack One Card: Visit the One Card Office at Talley Student Union.
  • In addition to the above, if you believe any of these items were stolen, also report it to NC State Police at 919-515-3000 or via Online Crime Reporting. 

Emergencies Only

Police will assist if a lockout poses an immediate risk to an individual or the campus (e.g., medical emergency, active experiment, unconscious person in a room/area). Non-urgent items (like laptops or bags that are left behind) are not emergencies, absent extenuating circumstances

For Non-Emergencies: 

During Business Hours (Mon–Fri, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

  1. Contact a departmental representative, your building/space liaison or a supervisor, professor or staff in the dean’s office.
  2. If unavailable, call NC State Police non-emergency line: 919-515-3000. Police help is a last resort and only if access credentials can be verified and police personnel are available to assist without diverting officers from law enforcement matters. 

After Hours/Weekends

  • Call NC State Police at 9195153000.
  • If your access credentials can be verified and the situation is urgent, police may be able to assist. Otherwise, you must wait until the next business day.

JUMPSTARTS

Vehicle unlocking and vehicle jump start requests will only be accommodated if they

  • Occur on University property and
  • Only if there is an emergency need for the service.

All other requests will be denied. For the purpose of these services, an emergency circumstance includes but is not limited to the following examples:

  • Child locked in a vehicle
  • Vehicle broken down in a hazardous area (including fire lane).
