NC State University Police received a report today of a sexual assault occurring on campus on August 21, 2020. A female student reported that she was sexually assaulted in Owen Residence Hall by a male subject whom she met through a social media dating app. University Police does not have enough information to confirm the identity of the assailant or their affiliation with the University.

The campus community is always encouraged to take the following steps to keep themselves safe:

– If you feel unsafe in any situation, trust your instinct and contact University Police immediately.
– Use caution when utilizing social media dating applications.
– Refer any unknown individuals attempting to enter residential facilities to University Housing for assistance.
– Be an active bystander; don’t just standby, stand up and do something. If you see someone in an uncomfortable or unsafe situation, please contact University Police.
– Report suspicious activities or crimes on campus by calling 911 or 919-515-3000.
